One By Design helped the Trustees launch their inaugural Coastal Initiative by producing a series of outdoor interpretive experiences at their iconic Crane Beach property. This exhibit promotes an awareness of our ever changing coastline and the i​mportant flora and fauna that inhabit it.

A series of interpretive panels were spread throughout the area. One featured a “photo spot” that invites visitors to take a picture with their smartphone through a fixed frame and upload it on social media to add to the daily collection photos to track the changing coastline. Another informed visitors about the migration routes of shorebirds illustrated by a map and flipping postcards.

Stair risers were fabricated to have messages about the importance of dunes. Piping plover sightings are recorded daily by staff and written on a specially made graphic. Changeable graphics that highlight some of the staff and volunteers of the reservation inform visitors on how important these people are and how they help contribute to the success of preserving the land and animals that inhabit this special place.

Since this exhibition is outdoors, it provided a respite from total isolation for local residents during the Covid-19 global pandemic.
